City Unveils Ambitious Metro Expansion Plan for 2030
City authorities unveiled a sweeping metro expansion on Wednesday, proposing three new lines that planners say could cut average commute times by roughly a third and finally connect districts long left off the network.
Officials framed the project as both transport and economic policy, arguing that better links would ease road congestion and open up housing and jobs on the city's edges. The first phase is targeted for completion by 2030, subject to financing.
Residents' groups broadly welcomed the plan but pressed for guarantees on construction disruption and fares, noting that previous projects had run over both schedule and budget.
