Renewable Grid Hits Record Share During Spring Peak

Renewable sources covered the majority of midday electricity demand on several days last week, a record share that grid operators described as proof the system can lean heavily on solar and wind without losing stability.
The milestone was helped by clear skies and strong spring winds, but operators said upgrades to forecasting and battery storage were the real reason the grid coped smoothly through the peak.
The next challenge, engineers noted, is the evening — when solar fades and demand climbs — and that is where the coming wave of storage investment is aimed.
